Top 35 Shows of 2014: No 33 You’re The Worst

To be honest I never thought a show like You’re The Worst would make my end of year list, a cable comedy about a bunch of assholes? Not usually my thing and yet there I was one Sunday night watching episode after episode of season one and realising that whilst Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash) may well be self involved and spend a lot of the time not being very nice people together they make the audience want to root for them.

Underneath the cynicism and casual sex there are two people trying to make a go of a relationship that they aren’t sure they really want and are convinced won’t work. In a year where the romantic comedy has been all over the new batch of TV comedies You’re The Worst makes the best case for the genre. This isn’t about cheesy lines, or clich├ęd misunderstandings it is two assholes who somehow fall in love and by the end of season one You’re The Worst is one of the best new comedies of 2014.
