Top 35 Shows of 2014: No 29 Sleepy Hollow

The S1 finale of Sleepy Hollow was one of my favourite finales of the year, it had great twists which I didn’t see coming (and I usually spot a twist a mile away) and left our heroes in some seriously dire straits. It was a great end to a freshman season which took people by surprise,Sleepy Hollow was way better and much more fun than it had any right to be.

Which is why it is disappointing that the show has built on the success of S1 and has found itself a little unsure in its second season. There is plenty I like about Sleepy Hollow still, it is hard not to be in love with Ichabod’s rants about every modern life, the Ichabod and Abbie friendship is great as well, and there are many moments when the show is not only heartbreaking but thrilling.

Yet there is definitely something lacking, too much focus on the Crane family drama at the expense of spending time with the Mills sisters. Characters like Hawley who I really don’t have an issue with like others do but should have been limited to a couple of appearances rather turning up all the time. Frank Irving has been completely wasted and Jenny Mills could have used way more than she has.

That isn’t to say that I’ve given up on the show, there are still 7 episodes left of S2 and perhaps the writers can fix the issues they are having. It is a shame that the promise the series showed in S1 especially with ‘Bad Blood’ hasn’t been fulfilled yet.
